Our Story

Healmatic was born in 2022 during my trip to Philadelphia and New York, where I attended an Advanced EMDR training with Jacqui Johnson, LPCC, ATR-BC and visited the transformative Mott Haven Hip Hop Therapy Studiofacilitated by JC Hall, LCSW, mentee of the late Dr. Edgar Tyson. That period of growth and transition inspired me to create something that blended my professional passion for trauma-informed therapy with my personal roots in Hip Hop culture — and that’s how Healmatic came to life.

On my way home, I was listening to Illmatic, the legendary album by Nasir Jones (Nas) that captures the lived experience of marginalized youth in America. That album, along with countless other Hip Hop movements, inspired the vision behind Healmatic — a philosophy that honors resilience, storytelling, and healing through creativity and connection.

The definition of Healmatic: Heal-ma-tic (adjective) (hee-ahl-mat-ik): The transformative act of unlearning and liberating oneself from negative experiences, core beliefs, thought patterns, and behaviors that hinder personal growth and well-being.

It encompasses the journey of healing and self-discovery, allowing individuals to shed emotional burdens and cultivate a healthier, more empowered sense of self.

As a California-based therapist in San Diego, my approach centers on the connection between mind, body, and spirit, guided by trauma-informed principles, healing justice, and a deep belief that we are all hardwired to heal.

What began as a collective vision has now evolved into my solo practice, a space where I continue the mission of Healmatic through inclusive, cognitive, and somatic-based therapy, and through creative outlets like the Healmatic apparel line and podcast.
